How Better Is the New and Revised PMP Certification 2021 – Part 1

 

 

According to the information given by PMI, the new and revised PMP Certification 2021 is affiliated and based on the development of standards of PMBOK 7 and so it is built from scratch. The entire content and structure of the syllabus is changed totally, while the previous exam content was based on 5 domains as the project lifecycle stages, the updated PMP Certification curriculum is based on 3 main domains – People, Process and Business Environment. The distribution could be as follows with 42% focus of questions on People (76 Questions out of 180), 50% focus of questions on Process (90 Questions out of 180), 8% focus of questions on Business Environment (14 Questions out of 180).   • Initiating – 13%
  • Planning – 24%
  • Executing – 31%
  • Monitoring & Controlling – 25%
  • Closing – 7%

For solving questions in the Initiating Domain successfully one needs to possess following Skills & Knowledge:

  • Elements of Project Charter
  • Analytical Skills
  • Estimation Techniques & Tools
  • Strategic Management
  • Benefit Analysis Techniques

For solving questions in the Planning Domain successfully one needs to possess following Skills & Knowledge:

  • Planning of Human resources properly
  • Proper requirements gathering with workflow diagram techniques and WBS with scope backlog etc.
  • Planning of Procurement correctly
  • With inclusion of scheduling techniques & tools, managing time properly.
  • Planning of Scope properly with Quality Management
  • Planning of Stakeholder properly
  • Planning of Cost & Change Management properly
  • Planning of effective communication properly which includes project budgeting tools & techniques.
  • Planning of adequate contract types with proper selection criteria with proper estimation of tools & techniques, along with efficiency principles and lean.

For solving questions in the Executing Domain successfully one needs to possess following Skills & Knowledge:

  • Rooting for Continuous improvement processes, tools and techniques.
  • Explore newer and newer Contract management techniques and tools
  • Focus on preparing elements of a statement of work and procedure.
  • Find out and analyse Inter dependencies with project elements and facts
  • Work on Project budgeting tools and techniques and make its maximum use to extent.
  • Set properly Quality standard tools and keep reviewing it from time to time.
  • Implement various Vendor management techniques and build a good rapport with each of them.

For solving questions in the Monitoring and Controlling Domain successfully one needs to possess following Skills & Knowledge:

  • Adhere to various Project monitoring tools and techniques and improvise them from time to time.
  • Keep in control and check the bound to happen analysis techniques and identify risks.
  • Make use of various quality measurement tools like flow charting, assessment, inspection, statistical sampling, control charts etc.
  • Implement all types of process analysis techniques like Lean, Kanban, Six Sigma etc.
  • Focus on the tracking techniques and performance management tools like Trend Analysis, CPM, PERT and EV.
  • Maintain at all costs the project finance rules and principles and project tolerance with control thresholds.
  • Improve on the Verification and Quality validation techniques.

For solving questions in the Executing Domain successfully one needs to possess following Skills & Knowledge:

  • Chalk out a proper Transition and smooth change overs planning technique
  • Device a proper and fool proof feedback techniques and tools.
  • Follow proper closeout procedures and compliances.
  • To know the health of project at time of delivery ensure proper performance measurement techniques and tools such as critical success factors, KPIs etc.
  • Preserve proper archiving practices and statutes so that at any point in the project if data is needed to refer it should be available.
  • Legal and finance compliance is a must and most important aspect of a project
  • Form various and proper project review techniques and methods to step back at any point of time.
  • Last but not least is the contract closure requirements and pre-requites.

People Domain

People domain concentrates on various tasks related to handling a team and / or people and to fulfill the project objective through it, one classic example could be conflict management. Considered as the 2nd largest domain among all the 3 domains with a distribution of 42% questions asked out of total. PMP course cost.

Process Domain

This domain consists of processes, standards and methods which will assist the project to achieve its goals and enhance the efficiency of the project, one classic example could be change management. This is the largest among all the domains with half (50%) questions asked in exam out of the total. PMP certification search.

Business Environment Domain

This domain explains about the management and know-how of the environmental impacts on the project happening from time to time. Classic example could be regulatory compliance. This might be the smallest domain but an important one with a distribution of 8% questions asked out of total. PMP percentage to pass.

Apart from the above domains PMI has also introduced something called as Enablers and Tasks.

Enablers are a group or set of activities (it’s the list of actual work that has to be done) which will assist in the tasks to be completed successfully. There will be list of Enablers given by PMI in the course content of PMP Exam. Current PMBOK version.

The above explained domains are further sub-divided into various tasks, so one must ask the question, what are these tasks? These are nothing but a sequence of roles and responsibilities of the Project Manager in a particular domain which he or she needs to carry out. As per the 2021 syllabus for PMP there are 14 tasks in the People Domain, around 17 Tasks in the Process Domain and 8 Tasks in the Business Environment Domain as part of the total Project Management.
